Item April 2018 Forum(Texas Digital Library, 2018-04-18) Park, Kristi; Mumma, Courtney; DeForest, Lea; McGovern, NancyItem Choose Your Own Adventure: Digital Preservation Storage Stories(Texas Digital Library, 2018-06-05) Mumma, Courtney; Woodward, Nicholas; Park, KristiSince 2015, the Texas Digital Library has enhanced its shared digital preservation infrastructure and services to help its 22 member libraries understand their options in choosing hosted preservation storage repositories. TDL’s digital preservation storage is accessed through the only DuraCloud instance outside of DuraSpace, through which members can store content in any of four options: Chronopolis, Digital Preservation Network (DPN), or Amazon’s S3 or Glacier. TDL encourages choosing cultural-heritage community-based Chronopolis and DPN over Amazon offerings. Ours is the only consortial DPN partnership. We work closely with members to help them understand their digital preservation needs and pair our technology offerings with their local systems and workflows. We use tools like the NDSA Levels of Preservation, internal auditing and inventorying, and an open grid to help better differentiate the storage options from each other. We share our results widely and have committed to the Digital Preservation Declaration of Shared Values. TDL will share our approach to sustainable digital preservation storage services with the OR community, as it makes connections between storage repositories and various other OSS repository systems.Item Current Practices in Quality Assurance for Web Archives(2013-04-19) Reyes, Brenda; University of North TexasWeb archiving is the process of storing and maintaining Internet resources (such as websites) to preserve them as a historical, informational, legal, or evidential record. The process involves three stages: selecting relevant resources for preservation, gathering and storing them, and providing for their access. In recent years, it has become an increasingly common practice in libraries around the world, as national libraries, such as the Library of Congress and the National Library of Australia, seek to preserve their national digital heritage. Many universities have also begun archiving the web, usually to create subject-specific collections of web sites that supplement their existing print and digital collections. Within the web archiving community, a step that often goes unmentioned is the Quality Assurance process (QA), which measures the quality of an archived site by comparing it to a standard that must be met. Currently, each institution conducts its QA process independently, using a myriad of different standards and software tools. The result is a considerable knowledge gap: practitioners do not know if and how their peers are conducting a QA process and generally do not share this information. Consequently, there are no agreed-upon quality standards or processes. The study presented here attempts to address this information gap in the web archiving community. To this end, we investigated how several institutions conduct their quality control processes. It is worth noting that quality control procedures are often not publicly available and not thoroughly documented, if at all. Much of the information present here has been obtained from reports, electronic communications, listserv discussions, and interviews with staff involved in the QA process. The results we obtained led us to design a survey instrument to gather information in a more thorough and structured manner. The results from this survey are included here.Item Digital Preservation Tools(Texas Digital Library, 2018-10-16) Mumma, CourtneyItem Digital Preservation Webinar Series: #1 Overview of Digital Preservation Services at Texas Digital Library(Texas Digital Library, 2017-09-29) Mumma, CourtneyOverview of Digital Preservation Services at Texas Digital Library with Courtney Mumma, Digital Preservation Services Manager at TDLItem Digital Preservation Webinar Series: #3 UCSD Digital Preservation Analyst Sibyl Schaefer on Chronopolis(Texas Digital Library, 2017-11-10) Mumma, Courtney; Schaefer, SibylItem Digital Preservation Webinar Series: #4 Digital Preservation Network with DPN Executive Director Mary Molinaro(Texas Digital Library, 2017-11-17) Molinaro, MaryItem November 2017 Forum(Texas Digital Library, 2017-11-15) Park, Kristi; Mumma, Courtney; DeForest, LeaItem Power in Numbers: Digital Preservation Networks(Texas Digital Library, 2017-10-24) Mumma, Courtney; Steans, RyanPresented at Digital Preservation Forum, #r2e DigiPres session, Pittsburgh, PA, October 2017: Texas Digital Library has capacity as a collective to increase preservation of, management of, and access to digital content.Item Simplify & Scale: Building a Python-based Bulk Upload Tool for D-Space(Texas Digital Library, 2024-05-22) Wardlow, Bruce; Diepen, PatrickOver the past year at the Cornette Library at WTAMU, we've developed a bespoke Simple Archive Format (SAF) compiler using Python to streamline the bulk upload process of University newspaper scans into our institutional D-Space repository. Join us in this presentation as we delve into the fundamentals of SAF, explore the genesis of our original script, and discuss its evolution with the integration of a graphical user interface (GUI) and error handling functionalities. As we fine-tune this tool to suit our requirements, we're keen to explore its potential expansion to cater to other institutions' needs, transforming it into a comprehensive SAF compiler. During this interactive idea lab session, we'll engage in a dialogue about the desired features of such a program and whether adaptability to various institutional contexts outweighs the convenience of a one-size-fits-most solution.
