The construction of an aquarium of quality in Corpus Christi is at this time being seriously considered. Seven potential sites were examined. Problems with the sites are discussed. Vulnerability to storm and flooding is a concern in the discussion as well as adjacency to the economic area, site needs, spatial needs, and adequate support. If the project proceeds at the Corpus Christi Peoples Street T-head it will consist of a 6.7 acre landscaped park. There will be parking for 235 cars, outdoor exhibits and displays in a park setting, and a 20,000 square foot aquarium within which the waters of the Gulf of México will be contrasted with the waters of the Caribbean. Estimated cost for the facility is $3,982,000 with an annual operating cost of $214,000. With appropriate promotion and development of revenue sources, an income of $361,000 is projected. Background of the Corpus Christi area, history of the building type, goals and objectives, analysis of activities, and a schedule of activities leading to completion of the project are discussed.
