A common occurrence in the modeling of magnetic and piezoelectric materials is the phenomenon of hysteresis. The Preisach operator has been successfully used in the modeling of physical systems with hysteresis, when the Preisach operator's density function is known. In this thesis, we examine a method for determining the density function for a physical system when implementing the Preisach operator and there is not enough experimental data to uniquely solve for the density function. To do this we will use a discretization of the Preisach plane, and implement a linear optimization method for experimental data.
