In determining a model for water uptake in a root system, Landsberg and Fowkes [6] centered their attention on a plant model consisting of the single main root and first order laterals. This research dealt with a circular cross-sectional xylem. The purpose of this thesis is to extend the work done by Landsberg and Fowkes by comparing the water flow through three different cross-sectional xylem 1) circular, 2) annular and 3) elHptical. A formula known as Hagen-Poiseuille's was used throughout this paper in considering circular xylem and then modified for use with annular and elliptical xylem.
