dc.description.abstract | The IMLS-sponsored Always Already Computational: Collections as Data project (2016-2019) sought to establish a framework for cultural heritage institutions to make their collections accessible for computational use. The project team ran two national forums on the topic, bringing together practitioners and researchers, and ran programming on the topic at more than a dozen professional conferences, seeking feedback from journalists, technologists, digital library practitioners, historians, and others. This presentation will (1) introduce the concept of and rationale behind collections as data; (2) describe resources developed over the course of the project to guide community implementation and critique; (3) discuss the project's findings and recommendations. [A note for the program committee: if you think this topic would be better suited for a workshop, please let me know] | en_US |
