Abstract

The overall purpose of this study was to demonstrate that electrokinetics could be used to promote the simultaneous removal of perchlorate and stimulate perchlorate degradation by injection of substrates in saturated soils. Bench-scale laboratory tests were conducted to achieve three specific objectives: • determine the rate of perchlorate removal from contaminated clay, sand, and soil colunms by electrokinetics; • determine the ability to promote degradation by injection of substrates, lactic acid and glycine; and • demonstrate the ability to simultaneously remove perchlorate and promote perchlorate degradation.
