The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in Lubbock, Amarillo, Odessa, and El Paso support residents in 108 counties in west Texas and four counties in eastern New Mexico. With this broad region comes the daunting task of trying to meet the needs of all the residents in this area. TTUHSC sees as part of its mission to support these communities that do not have ready access to one of the four main campuses. In order to serve these needs, TTUHSC has recognized the need to establish a rural medicine system. In particular, the Department of Family Medicine at TTUHSC in Lubbock is in the early stages of creating a support system for the communities of the region.
