The scope of this study is a detailed analysis of the two inferior state courts, probate and magistrate, their role and function in the judicial system of New Mexico. Analysis will be made of the judges who perform these functions, their political background and their training for the position. The magistrate court has been in operation for only a year, so it is too early to measure the opinions of others on the performance of these judges. However, opinions of those dealing with the probate court have been sought and will be analyzed in this study.
