| dc.description.abstract | The goal of this document is to provide both general and specific potential solutions for acoustic problems in nonprofit theatrical environments. It presents the basic principles of architectural acoustics in theatres and resources that allow the average person to understand and apply these principles. The state of Texas was used as a representative case study of community theatres across the nation. Five specific theatre groups across the state were selected and studied more completely and are included as case studies in this document. Each theatre represents a distinct study that addresses physical performance space, noise control issues and the potential enhancement of natural voice projection. While it was not possible to address all aspects of theatre acoustics, the intention was to provide a tool that is useful to nonprofit groups in understanding the critical issues associated with performance space acoustics. Optimistically, community theatre groups can use this information to evaluate their existing space and make improvements as time and budgets permit. Additionally, if this document raises awareness of a need that exists in community theatres, it is hoped fiiture research will provide continued support for the invaluable commodity of nonprofit, community theatre groups in this nation. | |
