Item Structural tests on prestressed masonry beams(1969-08) Fincher, Doris D.The purpose of this investigation was to determine feasibility of manufacturing pretensioned prestressed masonry beams and to study their structural behavior under load. The scope of this investigation was limited to laying and testing six full-size prestressed masonry beams using clay brick and Type M mortar. All beams were tested to ultimate failure. The applied loads, vertical deflections, and crack patterns were carefully recorded. Two variables used in this investigation were the coincing patterns of brick and the magnitude of prestressing force. The masonry beams were prestressed in an existing frame, modified to suit the nead as explained in Chapter II. The beams were limited in length due to the size of the prestressing frame. The beams used I, in this investigation were approximately seven feet in length.
