Item Modeling technology diffusion within Vietnam : a network approach.(2015-03-27) Kauffman, Steven Alan. 1992-; Pham, Van Hoang. This paper attempts to model three types of technology transfer within Vietnam. It is assumed that knowledge enters the country through firms that export to other countries. It can then spread by one of three mechanisms: geographic diffusion, industry-specific diffusion, or a combination of the two. A separate network is constructed for each model and a firm's position in the network is considered an input into the firm's production function. With the exception of China, exporting directly is relatively more important than being close to exporting firms. However, this relative amount depends on the export destination. Being close to firms that export to the US or Japan is 10 - 20% as important as exporting to those countries, but this range becomes 40 - 50% when the export destination is ASEAN.
