    Characteristics of hydrogen and operation of a hydrogen fueled internal combustion engine

    The United States Department of Energy and Ford Motor Company sponsored a hybrid electric vehicle competition called FutureTruck. This thesis discusses the development of a hydrogen fueled internal combustion engine for the 2004 FutureTruck competition. This thesis includes a discussion on characteristics of hydrogen and engine theory. A description of the hydrogen engine design and modifications are also included. Finally this thesis evaluates the hydrogen engine performance including emissions, which shows the hydrogen engine achieved ultra low emissions certification levels
