Item Thomas Mann and Spain(1956) Scheel, Eduardo González, 1924-; Michael, Wolfgang F. (Wolfgang Friedrich), 1909-The thesis presents Thomas Mann's growing interest in the literature and culture of Spain, his attraction to Spanish authors, his interpretation of the Spanish Civil War. The first and the third chapters parallel Thomas Mann with Ortega y Gasset and Cervantes respectively. A chronological study of Mann's works is presented in the second chapter, revealing his gradual interest in Spain, while the third chapter discusses Mann's evaluation of Don Quixote. The study concludes that even though the affinity of Thomas Mann and the Spanish nation is not great, it is significant.
