Item Laboratory simulation of motor vehicle radio interference(Texas Tech University, 1998-12) Jin, YeNot availableItem Laboratory simulation of multiple sources of motor vehicle radio interference(Texas Tech University, 2000-08) Yun, Jong-SinBack in the 1930s some engineers recognized that RFI (radio frequency interference) could be a nuisance. After years, with advancing technology, it turned into an even greater problem especially with the advent of high-tech communications systems and microprocessor-based control systems. Recognition of the problem led many engineers to become involved in EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) and as a result several test standards, including some for automotive EMC testing, have been made.Item Some critical parameters for the statistical characterization of power density within a microwave reverberation chamber(Texas Tech University, 1996-05) Mitra, Atindra KumarStatistical models for a component of the power density inside a microwave reverberation chamber are studied. These models include average chamber gain characteristics, an ideal probability density function (PDF), and an ideal spatial correlation function (SCF). The SCF model is extracted from a more general theory of complex cavities. Emphasis is placed on observing the appUcability of these models as the conditions in the chamber are varied from non-ideal, multi-moded operation to ideal, "overmoded" operation in the high-frequency limit. The observations are made with measurements and simulations. Deviations from the models are characterized by and related to a number of critical chamber parameters such as the Q, the chamber electrical size, and the frequency range of chamber operation. The introduction of a chamber parameter M, the number of modes in a 3-dB bandwidth, provides useful information with regard to the behavior of the models in the low frequency limits of chamber operation. The introduction of SCF measurements to microwave reverberation chamber systems provides useful insights into the physical behavior of the fields inside the chamber.Item Statistical comparison of electromagnetic susceptibility of a transmission line in reverberation and semianechoic chambers(Texas Tech University, 1998-12) Xu, JiayuThis thesis included the detailed structure of a microwave reverberation chamber for EMC testing. A single transmission line in the chamber is illuminated by a distant EMI source to study the induced voltages on the load impedance at one end. The frequency-domain responses are obtained. The statistical characteristics of the reverberation chamber, probability distribution function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF), are studied both theoretically and experimentally. A computer simulation program "NULINE" is used to simulate the response of the same transmission line excitation in a semianechoic EMC testing chamber. The statistical properties of the semianechoic chamber are also studied. The goal of this thesis is to compare the electromagnetic susceptibility measurement results of the statistical properties of the two different kinds of chambers. Upon our investigation, some meaningful conclusions are reached to properly interpret the EMC testing results from a semianechoic chamber and a reverberation chamber. Experiments for further investigation are also suggested.
