Item Burkian analysis of the Rainforest Action Network(Texas Tech University, 1994-08) Clark, Darryl LaneOn April 22, 1990, the city of Newark, New Jersey set aside $750,000 to clean up its streets; Chattanooga, Tennessee held a city-wide eco-fair to introduce alternative technologies safer for the environment; Flagstaff, Arizona had a children's tree-planting campaign; and people all over the United States examined how they could change their habits to help the environment. Earth Day 1990 was, perhaps, the height of the environmental movement. However, the vigor and excitement of Earth Day has faded, and environmental concerns seem to have taken a back seat to other issues of national importance. Still, environmental problems have not been solved nor have they been forgotten. Today, there are numerous groups working to protect the environment: the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Earth First!, and the Rainforest Action Network, to name just a few. Environmental concerns are numerous and varied. Global warming, saving endangered species, acid rain, and protecting the marine environment are all legitimate concerns. But of all the environmental problems facing the world today, one of the most urgent is the destruction of tropical rain forest.Item Mysterious criticism : a Burkean perspective on hierarchy and human social relations(2011-05) Brentlinger, Joseph Dee; Brummett, Barry, 1951-; Browning, LarryThis work introduces the idea of mysterious criticism as a viable means by which to critique, explain, and understand the role that hierarchy plays in human social relations. It scrutinizes the works of Kenneth Burke and others to explain the role that mystery plays in human hierarchical circumstances, and becomes a foray into popular culture as a suitable object by which to explicate the form of critique offered in its pages as well as providing fruitful sources for the study of hierarchy in the beginning of the 21st century.
