The researcher studied the relationship between the approaches to evangelism, argumenativeness and religious orientation.Item Communication apprehension in the workplance and its effects on employee job satisfaction(2005-05) Byron, Amber Lynne; Roach, Kenneth D.; Olaniran, Bolanle A.; Stewart, Robert A.This research study looks at communication apprehension in the workplace and how it relates to an employee’s level of job satisfaction. For this study, 210 employees who worked for subsidiary companies of FairMount Minerals completed a series of surveys that asked them demographic questions, as well as measured the total level of communication apprehension (PRCA), their level of job satisfaction (JDI), and their level of situational communication apprehension (SCAM). Participants came from several different locations including Fresno, Texas, Bridgman, Oklahoma, Troygrove, Illinois, and Roff, Michigan. When the surveys were completed and returned, the data was entered into SPSS for analysis. Several tests were run on the data, and significant findings were present. I found that as an employee’s level of communication apprehension rose, their level of job satisfaction fell. I also found that as an employee’s level of communication apprehension went up, so did their level of situational apprehension. The results and data are discussed in depth within this report. There are also several limitations as well as future research implications at the end of this research study. While there have been a few studies tying communication apprehension into job satisfaction, more research needs to be done in this area. Many of the communication apprehension studies to date have only looked at communication apprehension in the classroom, or when dealing with stage fright. Studies like this are very important when assessing the types of individuals that are working for a company. Freshmen college students are faced with new challenges and opportunities that they have never faced. Upon leaving home and attending college, students must learn to communicatively show adaptability in both social and academic environments. This study focuses on man and women freshmen students and how they differ in their communicative adaptability. To more completely understand freshmen students, quantitative data was gathered from different students in the fall semester and in the spring semester. The participants filled out the Communicative Adaptability Scale twice-once focusing on academic environments, and once focusing on social environments. Results showed that freshmen men are more comfortable displaying communicative adaptability in academic environments, while freshmen women are more comfortable in social situations. There is no difference of whether men or women are more able to adapt to college; however, the results of this study indicate the different environments each prefers to display communicative adaptability. Students in the fall semester reported being more confident in their communicative adaptability behaviors. Students in the fall also reported being significantly more confident in their ability to graduate from college than students in the spring. The results from this study have the potential to influence reform in preparation instruments colleges use to prepare incoming freshmen students. Also, this study establishes a basis for future research examining differences in freshmen men and women’s communicative adaptability. In addition this study highlights the importance and further development of freshmen adaptability tools accessible to freshmen students, their parents, and college faculty and staff.Item Supervisor/subordinate disconnect: An analysis of URT organizational research regarding employee information acquisition(2007-05) Christensen, Kyle M.; Williams, David E.; Scholl, Juliann C.; Stewart, Robert A.The current literature related to Uncertainty Reduction Theory provides accurate insight in understanding motivation to seek information, for employees within organizations. In discovering how to create a more accurate and available communication medium, organizations will benefit considerably in a number of areas. Previous studies have provided a framework to better understand the theoretical concepts related to this problem, however, research needs to be expanded in order to further our knowledge of these growing concerns in a constantly changing global organization. By analyzing existing literature, informational and research gaps are realized, along with four critical emergent themes: Channel Selection, Employee Evaluation Feedback, Employee Expectations, and Employee Reflective Decision Making. These are four areas, in which, employee uncertainty effects performance and organizational success. Discussion related to extended research and informational gaps helps provide direction for assistance in alleviating these critical concerns within an organizational context.
