Chapter 1 outlines the problems with what Paulo Freire terms "the banking concept of education" (53), including deception and strict discipline as constituting a status quo that disenfranchises students. Additionally, Chapter 1 describes institutional constraints helping to reinforce the status quo of oppressive pedagogy.application/pdfengCritical pedagogyEducationA pedagogy of choiceThesis
