Abstract

The effectiveness of the construction industry is highly dependent on employing knowledge and experiences. Lessons Learned Programs can be used to capture and disseminate knowledge to add value and continuously improve an organization. This study analyzes Lessons Learned Programs in the construction industry by conducting multiple surveys and interview sessions. The major findings that emerged were as follows: (1) Lessons Learned Programs are prominent among many construction organizations. (2) Organizations must understand the key characteristics of Lessons Learned and recognize some special considerations such as legal issues, metrics, cultural and global issues, and implementation challenges in order to implement an effective Lessons Learned Program. (3) Both human and IT resources are crucial to Lessons Learned Program success.
