Abstract

"Like many other important issues the use of alcqhol is controversial, but such a divided attitude does not apply to alcoholism, which is a disease and requires treatment."! It is therefore, not the intention of this paper to become involved in moral issues, or in medical or psychological theory and debate. It is written not as a means to an end for all to follow, .but as an honest pre~entation of pertinent facts and methods which represent some of the current knowledge of a disease almost as old as the history of man but about which little is known to this day. It is myprimary interest to assemble these facts into a physical architectural expression to combat this growing public health problem, capable of accommodating the execution of existing ideas and methods of rehabilitation, and with the necessary flexibility to grow with .the new.
