Abstract

Description

Following the death of George Floyd in 2020 and amidst a renewed national sense of urgency around the need to dismantle racist systems, TDL publicly affirmed its commitment to address racism within our organization and communities. Since that time, TDL leadership held a series of conversations with our staff, members, and boards with the aim of developing and sharing a set of concrete actions for TDL to take towards enacting those commitments. We are pleased to share with you our Anti-Racism Action Plan. We at TDL see this plan as an initial effort -- and part of an on-going enterprise -- to articulate and commit to concrete measures we can take as an organization, in collaboration with our home organization UT Austin Libraries, our members in Texas and Arizona, and our partners globally. As we say in the document’s introductory material, we believe that TDL’s work fundamentally promotes equity and inclusion by providing alternative models for distributing research and cultural heritage materials in ways that are more equitable worldwide. But we recognize we can do much more to address anti-Black and other forms of racism directly and with greater urgency.
