Abstract

Want to make your metadata more inclusive and respectful? Wondering how others are handling biased, offensive, and outdated terms? Feeling overwhelmed by the prospect of "getting it right" and the fear of getting it wrong? Welcome metadata enthusiasts and aficionados, experts and beginners! We’re learning together.

Ongoing inclusive and reparative metadata efforts continue amid a political environment hostile to its mission. How do we continue the efforts and conversations already taking place at our institutions? How do we start initiatives that can be successful in the current climate? We'll talk about both the successes and the challenges to update our collection descriptions, be they finding aids, catalog records, digital collections metadata, or anything else. Share experiences with colleagues from other institutions and maybe find a co-conspirator to advance your reparative metadata efforts. A community note taking approach will be used to create a collaborative resource list that attendees can take with them and hopefully use in their work.
