Abstract
In this study we are interested in those social and academic factors that might contribute to success in college level calculus for Hispanic students. In particular how do these factors compare with success factors for white non-Hispanic students. Via in-depth case studies we attempt to isolate and compare such factors for two students, one Hispanic and one white non-Hispanic, who successfully completed a one year calculus sequence at a large state comprehensive university.
