Abstract

This dissertation deals with a numerical investigation of path instabilities in rising air bubbles. This phenomenon has been looked at experimentally in a Hele{Shaw Geometry. The present work discusses a quasi-two dimensional Finite Element Method based simulation of the same experiment. The results validate the supercritical bifurcation nature of the instability. Reasons for disagreements between the experiment and simulation are presented.
