Recapturing the mythic past with the future: The tale of two urban neighborhood developments

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to examine urban development as an expression of neighborliness, a strong sense of community, and interpersonal trust within the community. To explore this phenomenon we will examine two planned communities, designed intentionally to create such an environment. The concept of neighborliness refers to the idea of helping-out others in the community and being a friendly neighbor. The neighborliness ideology is tied into the notion of creating a trust among members in the community.
