dc.description.abstractThis thesis contains 2 segments. The first segment concerns the annual and seasonal diets of the coyote (Canis latrans) on the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch. Northern bobwhite (Colinus virginianus) populations have been declining throughout the United States. Land use changes and habitat fragmentation are the primary reasons for bobwhite declines. However information is needed on interactions between coyotes and quail to make informed management decisions. This segment evaluates the diets of coyotes on a landscape managed intensively for quail between 2008 and 2011. The second segment concerns coyote preference and use of rodents on the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch. Little is known about the preference and selection of rodents by coyotes. This segment evaluates seasonal preference and selection of rodent genera during summer and winter between 2009 and 2011.
