Abstract

This thesis is about cryptology and the Kryptos sculpture in Langely, Virginia. Kryptos is designed with a coded message that has not been completely solved for over 20 years. We are going to explain what we know about Kryptos and the processes to solve the first three parts of the sculpture. We will cover the shift cipher, the Vigenere cipher, and the transposition cipher. Then we will discuss several methods that the sculptor, Jim Sanborn, may have used to code his fourth message.
