Abstract

The field of differential equations has been developed historically in two distinct phases. The earliest studies were devoted solely to the finding of methods by means of which various equations or classes of equations could be solved. These findings resulted in a diverse array of seemingly unrelated techniques for obtaining the solution of the various equations. Later studies were devoted to an extensive investigation of the concepts regarding the existence of solutions. It was from this latter phase of the research that the now familiar existence theorems resulted.
