Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate medical records and to assess the needs of Hispanic type 2 diabetics who receive care from one clinic in a rural area of Texas. Assessment was completed by comparing care currently provided by clinic staff to standards of care set by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for use in the management of diabetes and diabetic complications (ADA. 2003b). The medical chart review revealed poor glycemic control In participants and indicated that standard of care guidelines are not currently being utilized for diabetes care The results suggest that intervention is needed in a number of areas for this population with emphasis on lifestyle intervention.
