Abstract

Infiltration is one of the major components of the rainfall-runoff process. The objective of this research is to determine the Green-Ampt infiltration model loss-rate parameters and initial loss for selected Texas watersheds from measured rainfall-runoff data, to examine correlation between watershed characteristics and infiltration model loss-rate parameters, and to determine the sensitivity of loss-rate parameters due to the development condition or the geographical location of the watersheds. The loss-rate parameters were determined using an optimization procedure available in the HEC-HMS software. Statistical analysis were performed and it was determined that the hydraulic conductivity and initial-loss parameters are dependent on the development conditions and geographical location of the watershed. However, statistically significant correlation between rainfall-loss parameters and watersheds characteristics could not be established.
