Abstract
During the last two years, the Primate Laboratory of the Department of Psychology at Texas Technological College has attempted to develop adequate methods of testing discrimination learning in the rhesus monkey. Because the physiological effects of x-radiatlon impose definite limitations on post-radiation testing, emphasis has been placed on the use of apparatus and learning situations which do not depend upon food for motivation. In addition, the desirability of a testing apparatus which can be remotely operated has led to the development, in this Laboratory, of the use of light or patterns of light as cues. Since shock-avoidance apparatus and light stimuli have not been extensively used before, problems have arisen that are not adequately treated in the experimental psychology literature.
