Abstract

This thesis reviews several key concepts and equations which are vital to the creation of a physically credible and realistic smoke animation. The main contributions of this thesis include the reorganization of the scene by distance to permit the proper interaction between a translucent gas and its surrounding environment, the incorporation of a hash table to minimize the storage needed for the smoke's density, and an API for future developers looking to create a smoke simulation.
