Abstract
The purpose of this pilot study was to look at the effects of stress and sleep deprivation on cognitive and motor tasks of junior clerks as they pass through one rotation. Pediatrics was chosen from psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, and surgery, because there was easy access to a testing room and equipment. Of major importance was the issue of pre-call versus post-call response and behavior. It also looked at the results of a self-report of personality and mood factors. What follows is a presentation of methodology, instrumentation, results, discussion, and conclusions drawn from this research.
