Texas in the 1920's: a history of social change

Every historian must function as a historical geologist, stripping away strata of previous interpretation in an effort to reach the bedrock of historical reality. A historian of the twenties, attempting to deal with the changing nature of social institutions during that decade, finds this task especially perplexing, for he soon discovers that the most influential historical interpretation seems in conflict with contemporary evidence gathered by other social scientists.
