Abstract

The objectives of this study were to: (1) test the usefulness of the calapstatin genetic marker available for detecting genetic difference in beef cattle tenderness; (2) identify genetic lines of beef cattle that possess superior beef carcass tenderness traits; (3) calculate heritability estimates for various feedlot, carcass, and beef tenderness traits; and (4) calculate estimated progeny differences for each sire in the study for various feedlot, carcass, and beef tenderness traits.
