Llano Estacado Center: a center for the performing arts for Lubbock, Texas

Architecture must strive to preserve a society's cultural history. Creative reuse of an existing building can create a new historical precedence, while preserving the old.

The Performing Arts Center of Lubbock will provide the community vwth a place for the performing arts. The complex will house three theaters, a restaurant, an amphitheater within the park setting, and a centralized office complex for the non-profit organizatbnsforthe arts of Lubbock. The project will, also, have spaces necessary for practice and construction of theatrical works.

The Llano Center will be the link that binds the two fractured sides of Lubbock. The Center is located on the fringe of the Mae Simmons Park, the industrial cotton center, and the Chapman Hill Community. The complex will be a means through which the park, the community, and the entertainment district can be unified. The Center will adapt and reuse an existing factory. Specific elements of this factory will be incorporated into the overall design of the new building.
