The interpretations of Chinese walls: architecture as matchmaker

This thesis is not meant to give a comprehensive history of Chinese walls. Therefore, only a brief introducfíon on the historical background will be given in Chapter II, and the thesis overall is constructed of a series of explorations regarding the walled phenomenon in China.

After the introduction of the purpose and plan of the thesis in the first chapter, the second will provide background knowledge of Chinese walls—their history, structural characteristics, and classifications.
