Abstract

Texas A&M University is currently participating in a pilot project with the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) to add and edit records in the International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) database. Our participation in this project partly stemmed from our interest in the potential use of ISNI identifiers to disambiguate personal and corporate body names in our institutional repository. As a Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO) institution, we are also interested in comparing the process of creating/editing Name Authority Records and ISNI records. In this presentation, we would like to give a brief description of the PCC-ISNI Pilot, provide a summary of our work in the ISNI database, and discuss potential benefits of the use of ISNI in current and future digital projects.
