Abstract
This poster is the result of my Spring 2019 Capstone Project at the Benson Latin American Collection. It demonstrates the process of creating a digital collection of 19th-century photographs of Mexican politicians and notables. The result of the project is a social network visualization of the photographed subjects. This poster shows these processes which include digitizing a subset of photographs using in-house digitization standards & procedures, exposed to digital preservation processes & possibly “bagging” procedures, producing image derivatives, generating item-level metadata, developing the underlying datasets needed to create a social network visualization using Gephi, researching manuscript and printed holdings created by or about photographed individuals to link collection materials, and archival and digital humanities praxis through assigned readings, presentations, and tours.
