Abstract

The first part of this study demonstrates how a nation-in-arms character developed in Israel as the focal point of politics and society and how it has been practiced and modified over the course of time. Building on that discussion, the latter part of the study examines how the unique national characteristic worked in the Israeli-Hezbollah conflict in the summer of 2006, including the Israeli decision to launch a massive operation, the 34-day battle itself, and the ongoing aftershocks.
